Hospice and Dilmah
Since 1997 we have donated enough tea to each hospice service in New Zealand to meet their needs through the year, providing the best possible tea to those in the care of hospice along with their families, friends, visitors, staff and volunteers. As so beautifully expressed by Hospice… “The process of making a cup of tea and the comforting conversations that can occur over a hot cup of tea, can be relaxing and therapeutic, no matter the time of day or night”. This is something that is at the very heart of tea and the very heart of Dilmah and it’s founder Merrill J. Fernando.
We prefer not to advertise support in dollar terms ourselves because it’s not about a dollar value but the value it can give in a small way to people lives, at a time when they really need the small pleasures. To quote the kind words of Hospice further however…
“By the end of 2014 the total number of tea bags donated will have reach approximately 5 million – a commitment the entire Fernando family has to hospice in New Zealand. In terms of a dollar value, this donation has saved hospices throughout the country over $250,000 over the past 17 years. Supporting us in our work providing care for people with a life limiting condition, totally free of charge. Dilmah also donates a sizeable amount to Hospice NZ every second year through their onpack promotion, which sees a portion – 50c per pack from their green tea range being donated directly to support our work nationally.”
We encourage everyone to learn more about the wonderful work of Hospice throughout New Zealand.Read the Hospice 2013 Annual Review
